EXCESSIVE GYM USE
1
I train too much. I’m always
accused of spending too much time in
the gym, but I love it, I can’t stop, it’s
what makes me get up in the morning.
On top of the gym at my rugby club, I’ve
built myself one at home too. I was
injured so much that I thought I might
need my own personal rehab centre. The
gym makes me get up and fight for each
day and it’ll be the same when I retire.

STEVEN SEAGAL
DVDS
I’ve got a bit of an addiction to buying
DVDs – I have two wardrobes full of
the things. My guiltiest passion is for
Steven Seagal films (right). I bought all
of his famous movies – Under Siege,
Executive Decision, etc – but then ended
up buying all his lesser-known work too
– stuff like Belly Of The Beast. A lot of
these movies were made at the exact
same time, and there are moments
where he’ll be wearing an outfit from one
film but fighting someone from another.
LATE-NIGHT TV
3
I’m like a kid – I love staying up
past when I should. I just love that period
in the early hours when everyone else has
gone to bed and it’s quiet – that’s my time
to relax and enjoy myself. I’ll spend hours
skipping through different shows. There’s
some good stuff on in the small hours
– things like Family Guy and Challenge
TV’s Japanese game shows (above).
FOREIGN SPAS
4
I love to explore, but the only
time I can travel tends to be when
I’m injured, so I’ll stay in incredibly nice
places and get recharged in luxury as
I can’t really ‘rough it’ with an injured

Jonny Wilkinson’s
10 most guilty pleasures
The rugby legend reveals the things he loves to revel in
knee. Early in my career I didn’t travel
much, as I spent every spare second on
the field practising. Now I try to balance
both, and travel is probably my most
enjoyable guilty pleasure. It’s great to
immerse yourself in another culture
then come back fresh.
MAJORCA
5
I’ve holidayed in Majorca (below)
since I was three and I feel myself itching
to go back when I’m away for too long. It’s
like a home from home where you have
no job. If I’ve got a break in my schedule,
I’m straight on the plane. Being able to
train in a great climate with the sun on
my face, eating well and drinking loads
of water really motivates me.

SHOWERING FOR A
REALLY LONG TIME
I can spend hours in there. Looking after
your outside makes you feel better on
the inside, so I’m not afraid of hanging
around in the shower a little longer than
most. I have started to realise just how
much I damage myself in training, so
I take extra care of my body now. At first
I was embarrassed about bringing a
massive washbag full of moisturisers
into the dressing room, but when you
look around everyone’s sheepishly using
the same big bag. It’s not for show;
I wish I’d started when I was younger.

GOING
WALKABOUT
I like to wander off and clear
my mind of thoughts, fears
and regrets. If I don’t, I can
struggle. I tend to go over
things in my mind and that
can be damaging, so I get
away from the action for a
while. That’s when you can
make important changes in your ou ur
life. I close my eyes to the outside e
world and do a bit of work on me.

‘toasted conker’”
ADVENTURE NOVELS
8
I read a lot of action and
adventure novels like Lee Child, Michael
Connelly and James Patterson’s stuff.
I can immerse myself in the stories and
escape a bit. If I’m not reading that kind
of book, I’ll be reading something on how
I can understand myself. All of my guilty
pleasures are essentially indulgent trips
into trying to make myself the best I can.

day it’s been”
SCONES
9
Sometimes when I come out of
the gym, I can’t resist a scone. Driving
home eating my scone
helps me reflect on n
what a great day it’s ’s
been. Other than
that, I do eat well.
When I’m training
hard I never stop
eating. That’s one of
the hardest things
about being injured: d:
you have to hold back on the amount
you eat, as you’re not burning as much.
That’s the truth about the long showers
– I stay in there so long because it keeps
me away from the kitchen.
CRICKET
10
I’m obsessed with ball sports.
Since I can remember, all I have needed
is a ball and a some space to be content.
Spo Spor Sports orts other than rugby are a bit
of fa a guilty pleasure because
you yyou
risk injury when
playing pla them. But I love
cric cricket, and I was very
goo good at it at school. I’ll
play
just to clear my
min mind and really relax.
