ToyWatch rolls
in to town
A watch label that has taken the
US fashion world by storm has
arrived in the UK and is promising
to cause an almighty stir.
ToyWatch, the iconic brand
from Chicago, has been seen on
the wrists of Billy Bob Thornton,
Charlize Theron, Clive Owen,
Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio
and Al Gore, to name a few.
And now it has introduced
a range of five new styles, entitled
‘The Golden Collection’.
The highly covetable but
affordable line, cheekily and loosely
fashioned on a classic Rolex (but
given a funkier spin), has been a
sell-out success over the pond.
The collection includes The
Chrono Baguette with a seethrough
strap and black-and-gold
dial detailed with gemstones. Also
available are The Chrono New Style,
The Oversize, The Chrono Old Style
and The Crystal. All are on sale
exclusively from Browns and retail
from £120 to £210.

James Christopher picks
the must-see movies
The Assassination Of Jesse James By
The Coward Robert Ford “When Brad Pitt
swaggers into view in 1881 dressed from
head to toe in black we know we are in the
presence of a superior swine. Even Jesse’s
leather-faced brother, Frank (Sam Shepard),
is wary of his sibling’s chilly charisma. Their
conversations never get warmer than the
business in hand: staking out steam trains or
shooting people in the back of the head.
In Andrew Dominik’s gripping film, James
is as trustworthy as a Zimbabwean cheque.
Yet when he is killed by a twisted admirer,
played brilliantly by Casey Affleck,
he becomes an American hero and his
vanquisher a hollow and forgotten coward.”
I’m Not There “Todd Haynes’s homage to
Bob Dylan is the most beautifully
deconstructed film about a
rock ’n’ roll myth I’ve ever seen.
Assorted Hollywood actors such
as Christian Bale, Heath Ledger,
Richard Gere, Ben Wishaw and
Cate Blanchett play the different
face-cards of Dylan’s life. There’s
an absurd brilliance about the
way it hangs together.”
Funny Games “One of the most
eagerly awaited films of this year.
Michael Haneke’s remake of his 1997
Austrian shocker resettles the film in America
where the director believes it truly belongs.
His instincts are right. The story, about an
affluent family who are terrorised for no good
reason by two polite young psychopaths,
resonates alarmingly with the way violence
is packaged and consumed in America.”
