HARRODS: “COLOUR
HAS BEEN A MAJOR
STORY FOR US”
Stewart Mancey and
Jo Harris, men’s designer
and contemporary buyers
Key trends for spring
Ultra-lightness and gauzy
innovative fabrics were a strong
trend at Raf Simons, Jil Sander
and Yves Saint Laurent. Colour has also been
a major story for us – customers seem to be
shying away from navy and black and moving
towards bolder hues of yellow and blue.
Favourite labels Tom Ford, Balenciaga,
Yves Saint Laurent and Neil Barrett. D&G
had a great show for spring ’08. Also YM
and Acne Jeans are doing well.
Must-have items Leather, whether it’s a
Balenciaga trench or Neil Barrett’s grey biker
jacket. Checks are going to be huge; our
favourites are the Yves Saint Laurent linen

Key trends for spring There’s urban
Riviera, taking inspiration from Fifties
European resorts mixed with a modern-city
attitude. The whole growth around festival
style has really worked for us – we’ve made
it more modern, stylish and relaxed with a
‘Boho’ attitude. Look out for this at Rocha.
John Rocha and at St George by Duffer.
Favourite labels J by Jasper Conran and
Rocha.John Rocha. Paul Smith is still a strong
force in the UK and, personally, I love Dries
Van Noten, Marni and Burberry collections.
Must-have items Invest in quality like a
selection of T-shirts, laundered shirts, plain

jeans, a casual bomber or relaxed navy
blazer. Do not forget the season’s absolute

HITS ALL THE
RIGHT BUTTONS”
Mark Macdonald,
contemporary fashion
and tailoring buyer
Key trends for spring The key trends
focus on colour and luxurious fabrics.
Yellows, bright greens, mid blues and
reds all feature heavily. Silk-mix and
milled-cotton fabrics paired with sheened
wools offer an elegant and sophisticated
tip for this season.
Favourite labels Dior Homme and
Westwood Man, as they have offered a
wearable and contemporary edge to
the established super-brands. Kris Van

Hedi Slimane at Dior Homme by staying
true to his predecessor’s ethos of clean
lines and superbly tailored clothing.
Must-have items As layering is one of
the trends for this season, cardigans
continue to be at the forefront. Dior
Homme, Prada and Westwood Man have
produced fantastic examples. School
chic from Westwood, leather-panel
shoulder detailing from Prada and
signature wool silk-gathered seams
from Dior Homme are the stand-out
items. A key statement suit should be the
centrepiece of your wardrobe this season
with Miu Miu, Dior Homme and Neil
Barrett being the brands to invest in.
Essential accessory The selection
of timepieces from Toywatch hit all
the right buttons from the multitude
of coloured (Rolex-style) bezels to the
Grand Daddy Audemars 46mm gold-face
option. Paul Smith has some fantastic
coloured snake-print accessories. The
red snake wallet and yellow cardholder
are the must-have accessories from
his summer collection.
