Eight ways to spice up
your leisure time
INTERACT WITH ART
Liverpool Pipilotti Risti; 27 Jun-31 Aug
at FACT, 88 Wood St, L1; free;
fact.co.uk Swiss-born Risti, one of
Europe’s leading contemporary artists,
is bringing her hit show, examining the
interfaces between the natural and
industrial worlds, to Liverpool. Mixing
fantasy and humour, she challenges the
very way we look at art, physically as well
as emotionally – be it lying on the floor
watching a ceiling projection or perching
on huge furniture. Look out for Open, My
Glade, a work originally commissioned
to be shown in New York’s Times Square.
LAST CHANCE TO SEE CUTTING-EDGE DRAMA
London SubUrbia; until 28 June at Southwark Playhouse, Shipwright
Yard, SE1; 7.30pm; from £7; southwarkplayhouse.co.uk Celebrated
author Eric Bogosian’s original play has been updated and Anglicised
for this deeply attractive production from the theatre company that
launched the career of Ralph Fiennes. A dysfunctional group of friends
wait at a suburban cornershop for ‘Pony’, an ex-school mate now a
success in the music business, as they confront the issues of growing up.
MARVEL AT DARING MID-AIR EXPLOITS
Blackpool Aero GP Blackpool; 28-29 Jun at North Shore
beachfront; free; aero-gp.com Have you ever considered climbing into
a high-performance sports aeroplane and racing seven others round
a course? We hope not, it’s madness. Lucky for us, that sanity is in
short supply in Blackpool this weekend, as eight courageous pilots
do just that, for your entertainment. Given the risks they’re taking,
it would be rude not to head to North Shore to see them in action.

and he’ll fly right by”
Laugh at another man’s heartbreak
Nationwide A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures; at cinemas nationwide from 27 Jun;
completehistorymovie.co.uk The post-Morgan Spurlock vogue for gonzo documentaries continues with this
staggeringly revealing and personal film from MTV’s Chris Waitt. Frustrated after a series of failed relationships, he
embarks upon a quest to interview each and every one of his ex-girlfriends, asking them all the same question in the
process: why they dumped him. The bedraggled Waitt is equally endearing and maddening in his cluelessness, but
his guts are never in question – there has arguably never been a film where one man’s failings are so scrupulously
and honestly documented in all their painful and awkward glory. It’s somehow also the funniest British film in years.
